Getting Started

Placeholders

A placeholder is a word in curly brackets, like {server}, that Sparrow swaps for the real thing when it sends a message. Write "Welcome to {server}!" once and every member sees your server's name.

Using them

  • On the dashboard, each editor lists the placeholders it understands. Click one to copy it, then paste it where you want it.
  • They work anywhere in a message: the text above an embed, the title, description, fields, footer, image links, and every part of a Components V2 message.
  • The live preview shows them filled in with example or real details.
  • Each place understands its own list, below. One it doesn't know, or a typo, is left exactly as you typed it, so you'll spot it.

Times and dates

In Messages, {timestamp(...)} puts a time in the message. You write it in your own time zone, and everyone sees it in theirs, so 23:00 for you might read 1:00 AM for someone else. Sparrow gets your time zone from your browser when you post.

You typeEveryone sees (in their own time zone)
{timestamp(23:00)}Today at 23:00 your time, like 11:00 PM
{timestamp(11:30 pm)}The same, written with am or pm
{timestamp(2026-10-05 19:30)}That day and time, like October 5, 2026 at 7:30 PM
{timestamp(23:00, relative)}How long until then, like "in 3 hours", counting down
{timestamp(23:00, date)}Just the date. Use time or full for just the time, or both
{date}The day you post it

Discord can't show these in an embed title, author name, footer, field name or button label. There, Sparrow writes the time out with your time zone instead, like "11:00 PM MDT".

Messages

Messages you post from the dashboard. They aren't about one member, so only the server's details work here. They're filled in when you press Post or update the message, so a count is the count at that moment.
