Server Tag Role
A server tag is the short badge members can show next to their name, all across Discord. Server Tag Role gives a role to members who show your server's tag, and removes it when they stop. Use it to thank them, or to give them a color or a channel.
Setting it up
- Make sure your server has a tag. You set it in Discord's server settings.
- Create a role just for this in Discord, and put Sparrow's role above it.
- Open Server Tag Role in the dashboard, pick the role and turn it on.
- Press Save Changes. Sparrow checks everyone within about 15 seconds.
How it works
| When a member | Sparrow |
|---|---|
| Starts showing your tag | Gives them the role. |
| Hides the tag, or shows another server's tag | Removes the role. |
| Joins already showing your tag | Gives them the role. |
| Has the role but doesn't show the tag | Removes the role, so use a role just for this. |
Sparrow checks the tag belongs to your server, not what it says. If you change your tag's text, members who show it keep the role.
Discord tells Sparrow when someone changes their tag, so it usually happens within seconds. Sparrow also checks every member when you turn it on, when you pick a different role, and every few hours in case it missed a change.
Options
| Option | What it does |
|---|---|
| Role | The role to give. Sparrow can't give roles above its own highest role, or roles Discord or other bots manage. |
| Log channel | Optional. Sparrow posts there when it gives or removes the role. A full check posts one summary line. Posts never ping anyone. |
The page shows how many members show your tag. Turning it off stops Sparrow from changing the role. Members who have it keep it.
Good to know
- Sparrow needs Manage Roles.
- If the role can't be given, the page shows the reason, like a missing permission or a deleted role.
- Bots are never given the role.
- For roles given when members join or rejoin, see Auto Roles.
