Boost Messages

Thank a member automatically when they boost your server. Write the message once on the dashboard and Sparrow fills in who boosted and how many boosts your server has. Everything is set up on the dashboard. There are no commands.

Setting it up

  1. Open Boost Messages in the dashboard.
  2. Choose the channel and turn the message on.
  3. Edit the message on the Message tab. It starts with an example.
  4. Press Send test. Sparrow posts a sample about you in the channel so you can see what boosters will get.

Sparrow needs View Channel and Send Messages in the channel you choose. The message can be an Embed or a Components V2 message.

How a boost is detected

Sparrow checks for boosts in two ways, so it still notices one when Discord's own boost message is turned off:

WayNotes
Discord's own boost system messageThe main way. Your server's Send a message when someone boosts setting must be on (Server Settings → Overview), and Sparrow needs View Channel in the channel that setting posts to, usually your system channel. If Sparrow can't see that channel, this doesn't work. The Boost Messages page warns you and names the channel to fix.
A backup checkNotices a member's first boost even when the system message is off. Extra boosts and new boost levels from someone already boosting are only noticed through the system message.

If the same member boosts twice in a short time, they're only thanked once. Sparrow waits a couple of seconds before sending so {boostcount} includes the new boost.

Placeholders

A placeholder is a word in curly braces, like {user}. When Sparrow sends the message it swaps each one for the real value about the member who boosted. Placeholders are lowercase and must be spelled exactly. Anything Sparrow doesn't recognise is left as you typed it.

Every placeholder

PlaceholderWhat it becomesExample
{user}A mention of the booster. With the ping switch off, it's their name in bold instead.@Alex · ping off: Alex
{username}Their Discord username.alex_99
{displayname}Their nickname in your server if they have one, otherwise their Discord display name, otherwise their username.Alex
{server}Your server's name.Cozy Corner
{boostcount}How many boosts your server has right now.14
{boosttier}Your server's current Boost Level.2
{avatar}Their profile picture, as an image link.(their picture)
{servericon}Your server's icon, as an image link. Left out if the server has no icon.(your icon)

{boostcount} and {boosttier} also work in Welcome & Goodbye messages.

Sparrow's placeholderAlso accepted
{boostcount}{boost_count} {guild.premiumSubscriptionCount}
{boosttier}{boost_level} {guild.premiumTier}

See the Welcome & Goodbye docs for the full set of member placeholders ({user}, {username} and the rest). Boost Messages uses the same ones.

Pinging the booster

The Ping the booster switch controls whether a mention notifies them. Turn it off and {user} shows as their name in bold, and a Content box that holds only {user} is left out, so nobody is notified.

Boost card

A picture with the booster's avatar and name, sent with the message (turn it on in the Boost Card tab). It works like Welcome & Goodbye's card. By default it uses the Lanterns background with a pink ring and a "THANK YOU" title. You can pick another background, and the title and subtitle can use placeholders. The preview next to the settings matches what boosters receive.

With Premium you can upload your own background image, change the avatar ring, title and username colours, and pick a different font.

Reaction

Pick an emoji for Sparrow to add as a reaction to its boost message.

If a message doesn't appear

  • The dashboard shows the last problem on the Boost Messages page. It's usually a missing channel or a missing View Channel or Send Messages permission.
  • Check the message is turned on and has a channel chosen.
  • If real boosts aren't triggering it but Send test works, check Send a message when someone boosts is on in Server Settings → Overview, and that Sparrow can see the channel it posts to. The dashboard names that channel when this is the problem.
  • Use Send test to see the message in the channel. It works even while the message is turned off.
